A UNIQUE EVENT FOR THE SUPPORT OF SKI YOUTH

For the second time, the official The Nightrace wine – “Taste the Race” was tasted with numerous personalities from the ski scene on September 14 in the impressive Barrique Cellar. For this special occasion, the exclusive kick-off event was held at the Thaller wine castle in the Thermen- & Vulkanland.

Official THE Nightrace Wine

The winning wine was selected from three different expressive red wine cuvées by the jury, consisting of sportswoman of the century & wine patron Annemarie Moser-Pröll, ski world champion Renate Götschl, Mr. Nightrace Hans Grogl, stadium announcer Didi Ziesel, skiing fan Elisa Royer, sommelier Christoph Schütter and ORF regional director Gerhard Koch.

Die Number 1 is the Winner

The result could not be clearer! For the first time, all members of the jury were in agreement and decided on number 1, a powerful red wine cuvée from the winemaking siblings Katharina and Karl G. Thaller, consisting of Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Thus, the 2nd chapter of the special edition “Taste the Race“, limited to 2024 bottles, is now available for subscription. The special feature of this limited special edition for the races in January 2024 is that every bottle sold supports the up-and-coming skiers of the WSV Schladming. – So that the legend is enriched by another chapter!

Wine Patron: Annemarie Moser-Pröll

The former Austrian ski racer was the most outstanding skier of the 1970s. She won the overall World Cup six times, was world champion five times and Olympic downhill champion in 1980. In addition, she won 62 races in the Ski World Cup. In 1999, she was honored as “Austria’s Sportswoman of the Century” for her outstanding achievements. Having grown up herself as the sixth of eight children on a mountain farm in Kleinarl, the promotion of young people in skiing is particularly close to her heart. For this reason, she did not hesitate and, as successor to Renate Götschl, took over this year’s wine sponsorship for the official The Nightrace wine – “Taste the Race“.

Kulinarik aus dem Thermen- & Vulkanland

Following the tasting, the guests were invited to an aperitif on the vineyard terrace of the Thaller family. Here, the guests were treated to finger food & live cooking from the wine castle kitchen and matured raw ham from Vulcano Schinkenmanufaktur as well as Rosé Sprudl from Weinschloss Thaller.

Time Travel Through The Nightrace

In the courtyard of the wine castle, the guests were then taken on a journey through time by presenter Hannes Kargl, including video reviews of the last decades of “The Nightrace Schladming“. Mr. Nightrace Hans Grogl and Bernhard Knauß talked about the beginnings of the night slalom and gave insights into the highlights of the last years. The incomparable atmosphere on the finish slope in Schladming was also highlighted.

UNIQUE AMBIENCE & TOP CUISINE

Also on this evening the event in the courtyard of the wine castle did not fall into the water. The movable inner courtyard roofing not only ensured weatherproof conditions but also, in combination with the technical team of 4Events, a special atmosphere. This brilliant evening was framed by host Bettina Thaller and her team with top culinary delights as well as fine wines.

Impressive appearance

At a later hour the time had come and with a spectacular performance of the dance group “Tanzauftrag” the wine barrel of this year’s “Taste the Race” was brought on stage. Together with wine patron Annemarie Moser-Pröll and winemaker Katharina Thaller, it was launched and tasted together with the attended guests, including ex-ski racers Christian Mayer, Michael Tritscher and Bojan Krizay.
